Salvaging Parts: Some Strategies.

It was cost effective from the standpoint that for power consumed, plus my investment on the gun and an estimated value of parts amortized over one hour was worthwhile (no excel spreadsheet for those wishing to see the documentation, but I suggest trying it yourself.), versus the power consumed to attempt removal, the power required, etc- the heat gun won by a landslide. Miscellaneous MOSFET notes.

I mentioned early on in this blog that other MOSFETs could work, and they will work in most cases as long as they are in circuits that are within their peak ratings. Continue reading

An adjustment for the Alkaline Charger.

Changing this single bulb charger to a 7 1/2 Watt incandescent light bulb reduces the charging rate and therefore allows for the gasses that sometimes build up to escape. There will still likely be some failures encountered at this charging rate, but they should be much lower in incidence than occurs with a 25 Watt bulb or 40 Watt bulb. Any charger will have failed cells, it is part of the chemistry of primary cells. Continue reading
